Is this thing on?

*Blows dust off LJ*
Wow, this has been sitting idle for a while. Well, I just thought I'd poke my head up from playing World of Warcraft (which has consumed every ounce of leisure time since New Years) to say hi. I got a new job, but not before getting everyone I worked with at AIM into WoW. All of you must buy and play the game. Stop reading and go buy it. I'll be here when you get back.

Ok, now that you've got the game, install, patch and meet me inside. Oh and don't play the alliance. They suck.

FOR THE HORDE!!

- Crematorium, level 24 Undead Mage, Mug'Thol Server

End of line.

After Crimmus

Well Crimmus is over, tomorrow we head out to pick Ryan back up from his momma, Sunday is Becca-boo's birthday party, and Monday shall be a day of rest. Besides the holiday craziness, not much to report. Been playing my guitar, playing poker, etc. as usual.

Yesterday I opened up a World of Warcraft account. I've long stayed away from those MMORPGs that have been circling the net since Ultima Online first popped on the scene. I'm taking baby steps in trying this one out.. I'm on a 10 day trial. So far, so good. It's ok and thus far it actually has some story elements and is not just a huge chat room. We'll see how it goes as I move forward.

Not much else going on really.. the kiddos loved their Crimmus.. and between my guitar playing, Ryan's new guitar, Britt's drumpads, and Becca's new microphone, we're sure to never again have a quiet house. :)

Happy New Year, everyone!

Morning fun-ness

"I get up
A seven, yeah,
and I go to work at nine..."

Well I was so proud myself this morning. I got up and got the kids dressed and myself dressed and we all got out the door, got lunches, and got everyone to school/work on time. Then, I get a call from the wife telling me that I pretty much forgot everything else. Like the Christmas present Britt was supposed to take to school for exchangin' today, and our niece and nephew's jackets that they left at our house over the weekend that I'm supposed to get back to their mom today. So, my proudness kinda melted. But that's ok.. in running around to take Britt the gift at school and bring me the jackets, Kelly and Missy are gonna meet me for lunch. So, that'll be cool. I'm thinking Freebird's for burritos then Rockin' Robin for guitar testing. *shrug* Either way, lunch will be cool.

Not much else to say really.. tomorrow is Ryan-boo's birfday party, which looks like it's gonna have a good turnout, so that rocketh.

Later, peeps.

Feeling Minnesota (though I'm not exactly looking California)

I feel very "Blah" today. Not ready to do anything productive at work, that's for sure. Mostly I just want to chill, drink some hot chocolate, and play my guitar.

Last night our bigger kids had their school Christmas program. They were very cute but the school didn't have a very organized system to get all these parents and families fed and seated. Their place just isn't big enough. There was nowhere to sit, and it was crowded. We ended up grabbing our kiddos right after their part was over, forgoing the little spaghetti dinner the school had, and headed over to Pizzini's for some real sketti.

After that we went home and I crashed. I was tired as hell. I woke up this morning wanting nothing more that to take off work, keep the kids home from school, and laze around. Unfortunately this annoying sense of responsibility crept into my psyche and we all went to our appointed places of learning and labor. And, yadda yadda yadda, here I am bitching to you. :)

Just sharing the joy. :)

Hasta.

"Gor-Gor comes and sirens wail!"

Last night was all about GWAR!!

Chris, Alex, Cory (the Birthday boy), and I went to the Meridian club downtown to see GWAR on their 20th Anniversary tour. OMFG, it was awesome.

The first band was Mensrea. They are a talented bunch, but their songs are so full of change-ups, there never seems to be a motif that progresses throughout, that hooks the listener to the song. They're good, but all over the place. The crowd was overall pretty tame when they were on stage.

The second opener was A Dozen Furies. They absolutely rocked the house. Very good band, lots of Pantera influence in their sound, but they have two guitarists so they can add harmonies and such, which were very well done. They got the crowd really rockin' and I was very impressed with their performance.

Then, of course, GWAR. What can be said? It was an hour and a half of evisceration, decapitation, comedy, and lots and lots of colored water. Their stage show defiled the President, the Vice President, Sharon Osbourne, Michael Jackson, and of course, themselves. If you've never seen a GWAR show, I can't even begin to explain it to you. Find out when they're coming near you. Go. Experience. They even brought Gor-Gor out on stage.

If the crowd was rocking during A Dozen Furies, during GWAR they were IN- FUCKING- SANE. The place was packed. I've never been in a press of bodies that tight. With the exception of a coupld of asses, everyone was really cool. Alex even got to surf the crowd a bit. We all came away from it covered, nay soaked, in multicolord spray from the various weapons of GWAR and their victims. A really awesome time. I'm a little sore today, and my goatee is stained red beyond repair. I think I'm just gonna have to shave it and grow it back. But what an awesome night. I hope Cory had as much fun on his birthday as we did taking him. :)

Hey guys.. you know Disturbed is coming to the Verizon theater soon...

Beautiful weather and sinus pressure

I've got a head-cold thing kicking. Nothing hurting or aching below the neck, but I've got some nasty sinus pressure. Medication will ensue when I get home this evening.

This weekend was pretty cool. Friday night we had a couple of really good games of poker. The games were small but good and everyone did really well, with some really good play.

Saturday was role-playing. We resurrected an older game of mine and were able to pick it up with few problems. It was a pretty good session, even if it did mark the return of Allison's dice-induced narcolepsy. :) After taking Derek home, I rolled into the house about 5:30am and slept like a baby.

Sunday was a relaxing day. Kelly and I watched Million Dollar Baby together, then ran the kids to get little gifts. Britt got a goldfish, Ryan a transforming creature toy thingy, and Becca got a little backpack with toy keys, sunglasses, and cell phone. Later, Barb came over and we played cards. We had a great game of Hearts and I plan to keep playing the hell out of that game to get a better feel for how to control it.

Today I've just been auto-piloting work, letting my thoughts linger in the stratosphere and admiring the nice weather.

Fest & Feast

Ren Fest yesterday was a damn good time. The weather was cool and beautiful, we got to stay all day, the feast was awesome, and we got to go in costume this time, which just feels right.

This was our first time to attend the King's Feast at the festival, which was awesome. A fun time, a huge meal, and samples of serval of the festival's shows during the feast. Oh, and the wenches never let your tea, wine, or beer go empty; and the beer mug you get to keep. I don't drink very often, so I walked out of there sloshed as all hell. I did win a prize from the feast gift shop for breaking one of the feast "rules." I had to catch in my mouth a grape that the Duchess tossed from the stage, and even drunk I'm coordinated, so I caught it no problem. :) For the rest of the festival, we caught bits of a few shows, played some games, had a caricature done, and just walked around the festival spending the day together. We drove home after dark, and I was passing out by 9:30.

Here are a couple of pics from yesterday, one we took of us in the truck before we left in the morning, and the other is of me at the festival.

A full weekend aproacheth!

Well, my weekend is pretty much planned out. I got Harry Potter tickets for me and the kiddos for the Thursday night premier, I got plans to help Alex run the poker game on Friday while we play some Zombies!!!, and I got everything ready for Ren Fest for Kelly and I to leave on Saturday evening, camp out there, then hit the festival Sunday morning, do the King's Feast for lunch, and just spend the day together on the last day of Ren Fest '05. Looks like it's gonna be a fun, full weekend. This'll be the first time in quite a while that Kelly and I have gotten to go off and spend a night and day without the kiddos.

Alex has gotten me pretty hyped about Paintball. Here within the next few weeks we're gonna grab everyone, fill tanks, load up and go!

The GWAR show is coming up on Nov. 30th. I can't wait.

A cold front is moving through this week, bringing some cooler weather to highlight all the cool things that come with this, my favorite season of the year.

I've been playing a lot of Civilization IV lately. A really awesome game if you're a fan of the Civ games. Still the same great game with some new graphics and new features. They didn't go trying to re-invent the wheel (no pun intended to you Civ players), which rocks, cuz you don't jack with a good thing.

Not much else going on right now.. just watching the clock till Yabba-dabba-doo time.

Nifty quiz

Stolen from [info]satelle:

Modern, Cool Nerd
52 % Nerd, 52% Geek, 17% Dork
For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.

A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.

A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.

You scored better than half in Nerd and Geek, earning you the title of: Modern, Cool Nerd.

Nerds didn't use to be cool, but in the 90's that all changed. It used
to be that, if you were a computer expert, you had to wear plaid or a
pocket protector or suspenders or something that announced to the world
that you couldn't quite fit in. Not anymore. Now, the intelligent and
geeky have eked out for themselves a modicum of respect at the very
least, and "geek is chic." The Modern, Cool Nerd is intelligent,
knowledgable and always the person to call in a crisis (needing
computer advice/an arcane bit of trivia knowledge). They are the one
you want as your lifeline in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (or the one
up there, winning the million bucks)!

A Fest-full of Dollars

This weekend was a little lighter than our usual pace. Friday night's poker went well. Kelly took 2nd place. She's on quite the little winning streak. :) I took 4th which isn't a bad showing for me compared to the last 8 weeks. Saturday night we went out to my mother-in-laws for some home-cookin', movie watchin' and, most importantly, Cheesecake! Veddy, veddy goot. I'm always amazed at how different the night sky is just in the short distance between home and her house. Away from the city lights, it's just amazing. I don't think I could live that far out with, ya know, nothing to do all the time, but I'd like to have an observatory of my own. Cool stuff.

Anyway so Saturday night we get back to the house and tried to make plans to go see Jarhead with Derek and Jessica. Well after looking at the showtimes, we figured it'd be pretty late before we were done, and the drive had wiped us out a bit, so we decided to reschedule till the next day (though that fucker didn't call me on Sunday either, pfffffthhhtttt!). Before bed, we noticed a message from Alex on the 'puter saying that Kelly's freeroll game the next day had been cancelled. We then got the idea, since Kelly's schedule was now free, to go to The Ren. Fest. instead. So we got up the next morning, grabbed Chris, Barb, and their boys (who hadn't ever been) and headed out to Plantersville. It was a little hotter than I'd have liked, but not unbearable. The kids blew through their games budget pretty fast and they were tired of walking after about 2 and a half hours. We did manage to catch some of the Highland Games and we watched the Ded Bob Sho. One game I must report on is this: I finally got redemption for all the insults I've ever taken at the hands of the Drench-a-Wench wenches. That's right, on like my 2nd or 3rd shot (I bought six, just in case) I nailed the target and dunked the little bink, in mid shit-talk. Hehehehe. Score one for Micah. All in all not a bad time, but Kelly and I have GOT to go back once this year without the kiddos and I think we're gonna do it on the weekend of the 19th-20th. Not sure which day, but there's a bunch we didn't get so see so we've got to go back. Not to mention, this is the first time in years I've been without a costume.. it just didn't feel right, so I've got a couple weeks to through something together.

Well, I guess I'd better look like I'm working a little this morning.. so Hasta la byebye, fearless readers.

Oh yeah!

Almost forgot.. Alex posted one of the Halloween pics:

I'm the Achilles with the gold shield on the left.
[info]kellykts's the kissing booth.
Alex is Jack Sparrow.
Tracy's the sheep-fucker int he middle.
Lana's Athena but you can only see her head there near the middle
Allison went as Cassandra in the blue dress on the right (yeah we had lots of Greeks and Romans)
Cory had a grecko-roman toga thing kickin', but for some reason, looked alot like the Messiah...
Shawn and Johnnie went as firemen, which was kinda BS, cus, ya know, they ARE firemen.
Mark went as the priest with his, um, little friend.
[info]lizardlaugh is the Queen of Spades near the front-middle.
Oh, and the Sumo Elvis.. that's Glenn.

Well, you can see the rest.

There were some closer-up individual shots taken of various folks.. I'll be showing those as soon as they go through the "do I look like shit in this" approval process. :)

I am a quesadilla, haha!

The gorgeous weather just keeps on a rollin'! It's only 2:15pm and the sun's starting the downslide. Have I mentioned how much I love this time of year? I'll be getting off work in just a couple of hours and I don't have to come in at all tomorrow. I'm trying to find out if Mike is having his poker game tonight, because if not, I might just go down to the Crab Shack and do some Karaoke. My voice is a little rough from being sick, but I've had the itch for a couple weeks now and just haven't done anything about it.

I found some shirts I'd like to pick up from T-Shirts That Suck.com. Funny stuff. I also like a good bit of what T-Shirt Hell has to offer, though theirs are a few bucks more expensive. I guess you pay for the extra offensiveness of the shirts. hehehehe.

Well, nothing much to report. I'm out.

Interesting link

Implanting the DNA of the deceased into a tree: LINK Turning cemeteries into a grove of trees, rather than stones.

I got to eat lunch outside today. The weather is still beautiful here and it was very refreshing to be out in it. I still have some meeting madness, but hopefully it won't take too long.

I went to Wal Mart last night, looking for Batman Begins. Well they didn't have the two-disc version with the special features, so I opted to buy Kingdom of Heaven instead. I'd never seen the movie before and I actually liked it, though I hear many did not. Being that it was about the Crusades, I had wondered what point of view the movie would take. Would it demonize the Christian or the Islamic. Thankfully, it did both, and neither. It demonized fanaticism. It emphasized that being spiritual is more important than the ins and outs of a religion or belief system.

Here's a quote:
"I put no stock in religion. By the word religion I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every denomination be called the will of god. Holiness is in right action, and courage on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves, and goodness. What god desires is here [points to head] and here [points to heart], and by what you decide to do everyday, will make you a good man...or not. "

and another:
"You see, none of us chose our end really. A king may move a man, a father may claim a son. But remember that, even when those who move you be kings or men of power, your soul is in your keeping alone. When you stand before God you cannot say 'but I was told by others to do thus' or that 'virtue was not convinient at the time.' This will not suffice. Remember that."
